Terms of use
Last updated 2026-10-23.
Accepting these terms. These terms are the agreement between you and Hyperion360 Inc. (doing business as Kiption) for everything you do on kiption.com: reading, holding an account, and posting fiction. Using the archive forms the agreement; creating an account or posting a work confirms it, and the site footer links this page from every page. The software behind this archive is free and MIT-licensed, and you can run it yourself with no terms from us at all; these terms cover this archive as a service we operate.
What this service is. Kiption (kiption.com) is a free fiction archive run by Hyperion360 Inc. (hyperion360.com). Original novels and serials and fan fiction share the same shelves; reading is free, nothing is paywalled, and the archive runs no ads and no third-party analytics. We store your works, your reading state, and the account data needed to serve them, and nothing more.
Accounts and age. Anyone may read the public shelves without an account; posting, reviewing as yourself, and the member features need one. You must be 16 or older to hold an account. Restricted works need a member account and are for readers 18 and older; mature-rated works sit behind the adult-content gate. An account belongs to one person, and the password is yours to secure: you answer for everything done through your account, so do not hand it out.
Your content and your license. You keep every right to your work. Posting it here grants this archive one license only, and this paragraph is the whole grant: to store the work, host and display it to readers, cache it, distribute it within the service, and make backup copies of it. Distributing within the service means what the software does to deliver your work: story pages, listings, search results, feeds, and the EPUB and HTML exports. No license is granted for machine-learning training, and nothing in these terms assigns copyright, adaptation rights, or exclusivity to anyone. The license goes no further than delivering the work: we pass it to no one except the services that keep the archive running, and they may handle your work only to do that job. You can revoke the license for one work by deleting it, or for all of them by closing your account. You can export any work you posted at any time, as EPUB or HTML, from its own page. When you delete a work or close your account, the text leaves the site, and copies inside our backups age out within about thirty days.
Moral rights. Where the law lets you waive moral rights, you waive them only as far as the license above needs: storing the work, showing it as posted, converting it to the export formats, and backing it up. Where the law does not allow the waiver, this paragraph does not apply, and the license is read as narrowly as your law requires.
The service and the software. The Kiption name, this site, and the service we run on it belong to Hyperion360 Inc. The software underneath is different, on purpose: it is MIT-licensed and public at github.com/Hyperion360/kip, so you may use it, fork it, and run your own archive with no terms from us. Using this archive gives you no rights in the service beyond what these terms grant, and gives us no rights in your work beyond the license above.
What you may post. The archive keeps to a bookstore-shelf standard: romance, including mature romance behind the content gate, is welcome, and works whose primary purpose is sexual gratification are not. The full standard lives on the content policy page. Fan works are welcome here and are always noncommercial: a fan work is never paywalled on this archive and may not carry payment links in the story or its notes; commercial exploitation of fan works violates these terms. When you post, you attest that the work is entirely your own or a noncommercial transformative fan work built on someone else's characters or worlds, and the attestation means what it says: you are affirming you hold the rights the post claims.
Copyright and the DMCA. If you believe a work hosted here infringes your copyright, write to dmca [at] kiption [dot] com; the full notice procedure is on the copyright page. A valid notice takes the work down. The uploader may answer with a counter-notice, and absent a court filing the work is restored in 10 to 14 business days. A notice becomes sustained when the uploader does not counter within 10 business days, and three sustained notices close the account.
Third-party content and links. Stories, review text, author support links, and any web address a member puts in a work or a profile belong to the person who posted them. We host what members publish, and we are not its publisher or speaker. A link or a mention here is not an endorsement: we do not review off-site content in advance, we do not stand behind it, and we are not responsible for what its operators do or change after we link. Other sites carry their own terms and privacy practices, which you read on their pages, not ours. If something linked or posted here breaks the content policy or the law, write to us and the link or the work comes down.
Moderation and termination. Moderation is human: new writers' first submissions pass a validation queue, reports go to an operator whose policy pages are public, and no automated system deletes stories. We may remove content that breaks these terms or the content policy, and we may close accounts for those reasons, with the three-sustained-notices ladder governing copyright. Every removal and termination can be appealed to the operator by email. You may close your account at any time by writing to help [at] kiption [dot] com; take your exports first, they are yours.
When accounts end. When you ask us to close your account, we export your works to you and then delete the account and its data, with backup copies aging out within about thirty days. When we terminate an account for violating these terms, the content policy, or the law, you get a 30-day export window where the law allows one, so works you hold rights to are still yours to take; when the window closes, deletion is final. Copyright terminations run on the three-sustained-notices ladder in the copyright section. Beyond those causes, we may also decline to keep hosting an account with 30 days' notice by email, and the same export window applies; the works are yours either way, and this paragraph is the whole of our parting obligations.
Paid features. There are none on the archive today: everything here is free to read and free to post. A support link on a story page belongs to the author, and money through it never touches us. If a paid feature ever ships, it gets its own terms, published before it charges anyone.
Disclaimers and liability. The archive is provided as is. We keep nightly backups and work hard to stay up, but we do not guarantee uptime, and we do not guarantee a work survives a legal demand: a valid takedown notice or court order can remove content, which is why the export button exists. Where the law allows, our total liability to you is the greater of what you paid us, which on a free archive is nothing, or $100.
Indemnification. You answer for what you post. If a claim, loss, or demand lands on us because your content or your use of the archive violated these terms, the law, or someone's rights, you agree to cover the costs, within the same cap as the liability section: the greater of what you paid us, which on a free archive is nothing, or $100. Where the law does not allow this, it does not apply.
Disputes. If a dispute comes up between you and us, this section is the path, and every step of it is cheap on purpose. Talk first: either side describes the problem in writing, and email to help [at] kiption [dot] com counts as writing; both sides then try in good faith for 30 days to resolve it. Most disputes end there and cost nothing.
Mediation comes next: if talking does not resolve it, either side may propose a single session with a mediator, held remotely, with the mediator's fee split evenly between the two sides. Mediation is not binding, and choosing it does not delay either side's rights under the rest of this section.
Small claims court stays open the whole time: either side may bring any dispute that fits a small-claims court's limits in that court instead of the steps above, and the small-claims court near where you live counts. Every dispute that is not in small claims court belongs in the state and federal courts in Delaware, applying Delaware law, as the governing-law section says.
Two limits close the section, where the law allows them. Disputes are individual: a class, consolidated, or representative proceeding is waived to the extent the law allows, and if that waiver ever fails, the dispute between you and us still proceeds individually. A jury trial is waived: both sides give up a jury where the law allows that waiver. And any claim must be filed within one year after it arises, or it is barred.
Governing law. These terms are governed by Delaware law. The state and federal courts located in Delaware are the venue for every claim between you and us that the disputes section does not place somewhere else, and both sides accept that venue.
Legal compliance and export controls. You agree to follow the laws that apply to you here, including copyright law and any rule that restricts sending software or data across borders. We follow the laws that apply to us, including valid legal process, lawful takedown demands, and export controls. Where a lawful demand requires a work to come down, it comes down; the export button exists so the text survives somewhere else.
Assignment. We may assign these terms and the accounts under them to a successor on a merger, a sale of the service, or a similar transfer of the business, and they carry over intact. You may not assign your account or these terms without our written consent, and a transfer made without it has no effect.
Notices. Notices from us go to the email address on your account, and announcements of material changes are also posted on the site news feed before they take effect. Keep your account address current: a notice emailed there counts as given when sent. Notices to us go to help [at] kiption [dot] com.
General terms. If a court finds any part of these terms unenforceable, that part is cut and the rest stand. Our choosing not to enforce a term once is not a waiver of it. The parts that should survive an account's end do survive it: the license you granted for works still posted, the copyright, dispute, and governing-law sections, and the limits on liability. These terms, with the content policy, the copyright page, and the privacy policy, are the whole agreement between you and us about this archive, and they replace anything earlier. When events outside our control interrupt the service (a failure at a provider, a natural disaster, a network outage), the interruption is not a breach on our side while we work to restore service.
Changes to these terms. When these terms change we post the new date at the top of this page and announce material changes on the site news feed before they take effect. Continuing to use the archive 30 days after the announcement means you accept the change.
Contact. Questions about these terms go to help [at] kiption [dot] com. The operator is Hyperion360 Inc. (doing business as Kiption) (hyperion360.com).
